I created the Portland Jewish Yoga Collective, in collaboration with TischPDX, as a place for Jewish people of all affiliations to connect through the practice of yoga. Yoga and Judaism are both lenses through which we can not only see the world, but which provide a deeper embodiment of being alive. Therefore, anyone who desires to have a connection to a Jewish experience through yoga is invited to participate. Each gathering will consist of a Jewish themed yoga practice suitable for all levels of practitioners, time to socialize, and lots of FUN!!! As the collective grows, members will participate in shaping each session.
Holiday Classes
Many themes of the Jewish Holidays fit extremely well into the themes and actions of a Yoga practice. These classes can offer a medium to connect with the divine, and embody the lessons of the stories as if they are our own. I enjoy leading these practices secularly, so as to be inclusive of the beliefs of all the participants. However, I can also tailor them to include religious themes if I am leading them in a religious setting. Please contact me directly to talk about the workshop you would like presented.
These workshops can be customized for adults, children, or families.
Family Torah Yoga at your Congregation/ Event!
Yoga benefits young children by providing them a specific way to explore and challenge their bodies. It helps them learn vocabulary to express both their physical and emotional experiences. They learn calmness, breathing, and mindfulness, while developing strength, flexibility, and focus. Torah yoga adds another benefit of integrated learning. Participants remember the stories and themes more clearly because they have the connection to a physical action. Many of the concepts present in the yogic philosophy correspond well to the values taught in the Torah. These include our connection with the infinite, our inability to ignore the suffering of others, and our responsibility to make the world a better place. Adding physical actions to the Torah and holiday stories makes them more fun for kids to experience and a more easeful sense of connection to their bodies and their developing sense of spirituality.
Torah Yoga is designed for children ages 2-7, along with their parent or guardian, but kids and adults of all ages are welcome to participate. If you are interested in a custom, live stream or in person Torah Yoga event, please contact me.
